We finished February going 11-2, and after Sunday, we were 48-12 overall, still best in the West and tops in the NBA. We are on a mission. I wanted to add a few more thoughts about Lamar Odom and taking advantage of opportunity. Lamar is very talented. And he’s a perfect example of someone taking advantage of what’s been presented to him. He was kind of in my situation a little, with a limited but key role coming off the bench and doing what he was asked. He was also holding down the fort till the starters got back in. When one of those starters, Andrew Bynum, went down, Lamar’s role stepped up and his opportunity to be successful stepped up. He’s accepted that challenge, and taken it on in full stride. And because he’s playing a little bit more, he’s getting a little more comfortable and freer out there to play his game, and it’s kind of building. People get more confidence in you, then you get more confidence and momentum and it all builds on each other. He’s one of the best in the NBA and he’s just playing like it. He’s also definitely very vocal in the locker room. He’s a great guy, very positive — even though he’s been through some personal things that have been real challenging but I think they’ve actually made him stronger and an even better person. He always has good things to say, tries to bring people on and encourage them.
Personally, I’m trying to contribute everywhere I can — energy, steals, assists, rebounds, points, whatever. I realize right now, my role is a little limited, but it’s part of being on a team with a mission. Coming off the bench on the second unit, I want to do my job to the best of my ability to help us out and put us in a good situation for when the starters come back in. People have noted that even if there’s a steal against us, I’m going to try my best to surprise that guy and to block his shot — it’s part of my competitive spirit. That’s what we live for. This is what this country is built on, to constantly strive to be the best you can be. That’s how I was raised.
President Obama made reference to that spirit in his speech to Congress last week when he said, “Those qualities that have made America the greatest force of progress and prosperity in human history we still possess in ample measure. What is required now is for this country to pull together, confront boldly the challenges we face, and take responsibility for our future once more.” You couldn’t say it better.
So last week, I was talking about what I like to see girls wearing. Wintertime in California, it can get a little chilly outside at night, and girls can keep warm but still look sexy wearing those scrunchy socks and sweater dresses. It was chilly out in the Arizona desert at the All-Star weekend. Jay-Z was there with Beyonce, and I’ve seen her wear a sweater dress. She’s got some style, she’s versatile. A lot of my teammates’ wives are also very stylish.
I also like girls who accessorize, especially if they know how to do it right. Earrings, belts, cool little bracelets, stylish hats, stuff like can all make the outfit a little sexier. Yeah, I’d definitely say I was a “leg man” because I do like to see a woman’s legs, something shapely and fine. For me, curves is what it’s all about. Beautiful legs with a nice curvy body is perfect, lol! I’d rather have a girl or notice a girl who has a curvier lower half than upper half, if you get my meaning. Like Beyonce, the very beautiful Alicia Keys is a perfect example of what I’m talking about. She’s not real big on top, but she’s very sexy and she has nice legs and hips. She also has that other thing I really appreciate, that natural beautiful look. Yes, we always see her on camera or in performance and she has make-up on and her hair’s all done up. But you just know if she were to wear just jeans and a simple t-shirt, put her hair in a ponytail, all natural, she’d be just as beautiful. So versatile, natural and curvy, that’s what I like.
In an upcoming episode of CBS’ drama NUMB3RS, Pau Gasol and I help out a sad sack college basketball team. We played ourselves and it was awesome, a great experience. We got a chance to hang out with the series’ regulars, the director and producers, and see how they do their thing every day, and it was very cool to get some insight into that. We played some ball for the cameras, we both had a couple of lines, I’d never done a TV show before — I’ve done some commercials — but this was a lot of fun. The actors go through a lot. Even though we were playing ourselves, you’re still saying lines you wouldn’t normally say, in a different dramatic situation, and you have to act. The actors are compensated well, and there are a lot of perks, and they have a lot of fun and camaraderie around the set with each other. I can absolutely see myself getting into something like this down the way. If I took some acting lessons, learned more about the craft, took it seriously, I feel I could definitely get into it.
A reader asked about that alleged domestic incident that Rihanna was involved in. I wasn’t there, I don’t know what happened. But I definitely don’t think it’s ever right to hit a woman. It’s not something that I would ever do, no matter what the situation was. I would rather just leave and not be a part of it or put myself in an environment or situation that ever gets to that point.
Thanks for your comments and questions. Check back in next week.

So, i was reading your blog a couple of days ago and as i was reading, I saw that you answered my question. I really thought that you wouldn’t because its a somewhat of a controversial question. But, you did and I would like to thank you for answering it. It meant a lot and as a token of my appreciation, I would like to give you, (although it looks terrible & not much) my own version of a jordan farmar mix.

In these blogs you talk about the style you like to see in girls, and their body types and what not, being a NBA basketball player its pretty easy for you to pretty much get any girl you wanted. My question is are you in to the famous girls that know what its like to live in your lifestyle, like your examples Alicia Keys and Beyonce OR are you a more low key girl next door kinda guy. In the NBA you have people like Parker who is married to Eva Longoria, or people like Kobe who is married to his high school sweet heart.
Besides all that nosey stuff, just wanted to say I admire seeing stars use their fame for good causes, I often volunteer at hospitals and you working with children is just so amazing, they look up to you prob the same way you admired, lets say, Michael Jordan. Its a very big deal, something so little as putting a day away to be there can really change someones life.

I was at your game on Tues. You’d played great. Some dude got in my way when you made your first shot of the game .. LOL. Anyways, I love reading your views on life & how basketball has made such an impact on you that you use it as a metaphor. So my question is, what are some of things you like doing when you have time off? And what are somethings youre interested in (movies, politics, music.. anything)?

When your playing, you seem to always wear a purple bracelet. Does it go for any cause or anything or is it just a Laker bracelet?
