Jordan put on a show this weekend with a NBA.com’s Steal of the Night, an off-the-backboard assist to Trevor Ariza on his NBA.com Dunk of the Night, and Jordan also threw down a poster-worthy dunk himself against Olympic star Chris Bosh of the Toronto Raptors. All three highlights came during back to back wins for the Lakers against FC Regal Barcelona and the Raptors.
Jordan led the Bench Mob effectively over the weekend and now that the late season acquisition Trevor Ariza has had a chance to get accustomed to their style of play, they expect to be the top 2nd unit in the NBA.
“We just have fun. We enjoy playing with one another,” Jordan said about the Laker’s 2nd unit. “We know each other’s strengths and weaknesses, and we try to play to each other’s strengths. We have Lamar out there who does a lot of good things, Chris is playing good basketball now, Trevor is running the floor, Luke is a playmaker. We’re just trying to get everyone’s rhythm and timing and, you know, just level of comfortability up a little bit.”
As the preseason winds down and the Lakers get set for a quest back to the NBA Finals, he believes that the 2nd unit is starting to get comfortable and is starting to click.
“It’s just a matter of timing,” said Jordan. “That’s why we’re here. Still, a few shots are rattling in and out, feeling good but not going down. That’s part of the preseason. You get all those kinks out so that, when opening day comes, you’re ready to go. We’re trying to achieve that. As long as we continue to work and really take notice of what’s going on and what’s beneficial for us, we’ll be okay.”
